Range Stove Giving You Problems? What You Can Do

Blog

Your range is what heats up the food that you eat, it helps provide the heat and flame for the meals that you cook every single day for your entire family and for yourself. The stove is a big part of the day-to-day in your household, so when it starts giving you problems, it becomes a major issue. Even the simple task of boiling water can be a problem if you don't have a stove to do this on. If your stove is giving you problems, read on for helpful information that you may use to get it working properly.

Check The Gas

If you have a gas stove, you need to check the gas line to be sure that it is still turned on and that you don't have a leak anywhere either. If you smell gas in your home, the leak may be in this area. You need to turn off the gas and then call your local gas company to have it sniffed out and then repaired as needed. If your gas was somehow turned off and not for any reason such as for a leak, you should turn it back on, as your stove is going to need gas in order to light and provide the constant flame and heat that you need for it to work.

Light Manually

If you attempt to light the stove and it just isn't igniting, but you can smell gas, try to use a lighter to ignite the flame on the stove. Use a long-handled lighter to light the gas but stand back and be very careful when doing this so as to not get burned in the process. The flame may be quite large, but once it ignites, you can use the dial to control the flame on the burner. Once you turn it off after using it, try to light it again to see if it will ignite on its own, or if you have to use the lighter again. If you need the lighter again, it may be a problem with the flame sensor.

Clean The Flame Sensor

There should be a flame sensor beneath the cover on the burner. Find this sensor and clean it off with a piece of Emory cloth. Clean the sensor, then attempt to light your stove. If it still does not ignite, the ignitor may have gone bad and will need to be replaced. If the sensor was just dirty, you should clean the sensors on all of the burners just to be sure. If it's the ignitor, you may want to hire a professional repair service to handle this task for you.

If your range is not working properly, there may be a few things you can do to get it working properly again.

Too Many Appliances Are Needlessly Discarded Today

My father worked as an appliance repair technician. I was always fascinated by his job, and I learned a lot just listening to him talk about his days at work with my mother. While he retired years ago, and I decided to not to follow in his footsteps in my career choice, I am still fascinated by how appliances work and especially how they have changed over the years. However, I have noticed one trend I don't like, and that is that too many appliances are thrown out when all they need is simple, quick fixes. I don't think that today's generation really knows when appliances can be fixed instead of replaced and how much money they are throwing away by not knowing! I decided to create a blog to share my tips with everyone, and I hope I can play a part in teaching young people today about appliances.
