Window seats can be a lovely addition to any home. You have a seat where you can relax and look out the window. Your pets can use it to sit and watch the outdoors. Or, you can even put your plants there so that they get loads of sunshine.
The problem comes when it's time to put window treatments on the windows. You don't want something that will make it harder for you to use your window seat, because that defeats the purpose. But, you also don't want to leave the windows bare, because then people can see into your house. So, what are some window treatments that you can put on these particular windows?
Blinds
Putting blinds in your window seat area is one way to make sure that your window is covered. The nice thing about blinds is that you can raise them up or down as you want. That gives you the chance to adjust how much light you want to have in the area. If you are going with blinds, there are some things that you need to think about when looking at the different kinds of blinds.
One is that if your window seat is going to be used a lot, then you want to make sure that the blinds you choose are both soft and strong. The blinds are going to have people leaning on them while they are in the seat, so anything with hard edges is going to be uncomfortable. You need strong because people will be leaning on them. Roman blinds made of fabric would be a really good choice.
Curtains
You can also choose to put curtains or drapes over the window. You can get them to match the cushion in your window seat and coordinate everything. That can give a room a really finished look. Curtains will also be soft enough for people to lean on. One issue with curtains is that it will be harder to let only a little light in at the bottom of the window.
Another option you have when it comes to windows or drapes is to put them outside of the opening to the window seat. That will leave the entire seat hidden, and create a hidden little area. You could do that with blinds on the window, and have a cozy place for people to use.
If you have just gotten the window seat that you have always wanted, you need to figure out a way to cover the window that will make it possible to give you privacy but still leave the window seat usable.

My father worked as an appliance repair technician. I was always fascinated by his job, and I learned a lot just listening to him talk about his days at work with my mother. While he retired years ago, and I decided to not to follow in his footsteps in my career choice, I am still fascinated by how appliances work and especially how they have changed over the years. However, I have noticed one trend I don't like, and that is that too many appliances are thrown out when all they need is simple, quick fixes. I don't think that today's generation really knows when appliances can be fixed instead of replaced and how much money they are throwing away by not knowing! I decided to create a blog to share my tips with everyone, and I hope I can play a part in teaching young people today about appliances.
