How To Easily Fix A Gas Burner That Will Not Light Due To A Loose Connection

Blog

If one of your gas burners on your stove will not light up, there is a good chance that it is because a connection has worked loose between the igniter and the control module. This could happen either during the installation process or while you are cleaning your oven. Here is what you need to do to fix this problem.

#1 Unplug Your Stove

The first thing you need to do is cut the power to your stove. You can to this by flipping the breaker switch for the area of your kitchen where your stove is located into the off position, then unplugging your stove. Since you are dealing with a gas stove, you should turn off the main gas supply to your house into the off position as well. You can also just turn off the gas to your kitchen if you can control it on a more specific basis.

#2 Remove The Grate & Burner Cap

The second thing you need to do is remove the grate and burner cap. Set out a few paper towels to rest the grate and burner cap on. Pick up the grate with oven mitts and place it aside. Then, remove the burner cap from the burner in question and place it to the side. You should be able to just pick up and remove the burner cap; however, some burner caps are held in place with screws. If yours is screwed in place, remove the screws first, then take off the burner cap.

#3 Remove Sealed Burner Base

After you remove the grate and the burner cap, you are going to need to remove the sealed burner base. This is the mechanics that is under the burner cap that covers up the wires. You may need to use a screwdriver to pry the burner base off your burner.

#4 Look For Loose Wires

Now you need to look for loose or even disconnected wires within the burner base. If there are any connections that are not well attached or are loose, tighten them up and make sure that they are all connected to where they should go. There should only be a few wires within the burner base, and it should be easy to see where they go. They should connect to the receptacle that matches the wire color.

#5 Reattach Everything

Take the sealed burner base and push it back into place. Make sure that it is secure, then put the burner cap back on and place the grate back on top as well. Next, turn the electricity back on, plug the oven in, and turn the gas back on.

All you have to do now is test the burner and make sure that reconnected and securing the wires inside of the sealed burner base fixed the problem. For more information, contact local professionals like Carolina Appliance Service.

Too Many Appliances Are Needlessly Discarded Today

My father worked as an appliance repair technician. I was always fascinated by his job, and I learned a lot just listening to him talk about his days at work with my mother. While he retired years ago, and I decided to not to follow in his footsteps in my career choice, I am still fascinated by how appliances work and especially how they have changed over the years. However, I have noticed one trend I don't like, and that is that too many appliances are thrown out when all they need is simple, quick fixes. I don't think that today's generation really knows when appliances can be fixed instead of replaced and how much money they are throwing away by not knowing! I decided to create a blog to share my tips with everyone, and I hope I can play a part in teaching young people today about appliances.
